Children grieve, too - in their own way and in their own time. Helping children and teens who are facing loss is the mission of The Hospice's Child & Family Support Program - the first of its kind in the nation. At home, at school, at a hospice community service center or a hospice camp, children and families grieving a death due to any cause can find active support, helpful resources and warm encouragement.
Counseling services -
Children can express themselves and find healthy ways to cope with difficult feelings while working one-on-one with specially trained counselors using age-appropriate techniques such as play and art therapies. Our counselors also work with parents, guardians, teachers and other adults who are looking for practical strategies to help the children in their lives who are living with loss and grief.
Support groups -
You are not alone. Talking with other kids helps children understand that they are not the only ones who are feeling hurt, sad, angry or afraid. Facilitated by hospice professionals, support groups give children and teens a safe place to share their feelings and find friends.
Camps -
Create new memories, have fun, and connect with others through a camp experience. Camp Hope is a special weekend for families with children who are adjusting to the recent death of a loved one. Children and teens who have lost a loved one come together to share stories and enjoy good times at our annual Camp Erin (formerly
Camp LLL) weekend.
Crisis intervention -
When a tragic event such as a sudden death affects your school, neighborhood or other group and children are involved, our crisis intervention team will bring trained professionals to your site to provide counseling, support and information.
