Deidra Woods, MD, FACP, FAAHPM, CMD
Medical Director
Dr. Deidra Woods became Suncoast Hospice’s medical director in spring 2010. Dr. Woods was drawn to hospice philosophy by her passion for providing comprehensive care to seriously ill patients. She began her medical career as a registered nurse, later becoming a doctor specializing in internal medicine and geriatrics. She has worked in private practice, served as medical director for a nursing home and two other hospices. Dr. Woods belongs to numerous professional organizations, such as American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American Geriatric Society and more. Her experience also includes numerous presentations before professional groups and faculty appointments to the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine and Mercer University’s department of Internal Medicine.
Susan M. Wehr, MD
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Wehr earned her medical degree and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Wehr is board certified in Internal Medicine. She brings with her experience as an assistant professor of Clinical Medicine, and Medical Director of a local clinic.
William Moore, MD
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Moore earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA. He is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Family Medicine, and is certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review. Dr Moore is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at University of South Florida Medical School. Formerly, Dr Moore served on the Board of the Florida Academy of Family Medicine & Board of Governors of the Pinellas County Medical Society.
Donald Simmler, MD
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Simmler earned his medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the University of South Florida. He is board certified in Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Pulmonary Medicine, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Medical Honor Society. Dr. Simmler spent 26 years in private practice specializing in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine prior to joining The Hospice in 2006.
Martin Bialow, MD
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Bialow is an honors graduate of Harvard College. He received his MD from the University of Florida. His post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology was in New York City and Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Bialow is Board certified in Internal Medicine. He is on the faculty of The USF Medical School as Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Bialow has been in private practice in Pinellas County and also served as Staff Cardiologist at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. He has been a Palliative Care Physician with The Suncoast Hospice since 2008.
Wayne Anderson, MD
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Anderson earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of South Florida Family Medicine Residency program in Clearwater, Florida where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr.Anderson worked for almost three years as a hospitalist at Morton Plant hospital before joining Suncoast Hospice. He works with the palliative care service at Morton Plant providing relief and comfort for patient and families with life limiting illnesses.
David B. Brecher, MD
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Brecher earned his medical degree at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico, School of Medicine. He completed his residency and was Chief Resident in Family Medicine at Kings County Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. He is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Family Medicine. Dr. Brecher is currently the Palliative Care Physician at Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin Hospitals, where he is the recipient ofthe 2009 Excellence in Medicine Award.
Kirksak Jay Poonkasem, MD, LMT (aka. Dr. Jay)
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Jay earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine and Administrative Fellowship at the University of South Florida - Morton Plant Mease Family Medicine Residency program and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. He is currently involved in the Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Jay is trained in Medical Acupuncture from the Stanford University/Helms Medical Institute program and is a Licensed Massage Therapist here in the State of Florida. With his interest in Integrative Medicine, he hopes to be able to incorporate this knowledge into the care of his patients at Suncoast Hospice. Dr. Jay was recently named "Young Leader of the Year" by the Florida Academy of Family Physicians.
